Cherokee Brewery, Facelift

The renovation of the old Cherokee Brewery into Earthbound continues, with a complete removal of that awful red paint, and tuckpointing giving new life to this ancient structure. It will be amazing when complete.

Ghost signs have appeared…

Arch Tram Rides Will Close Nov. 28 2016

If you like to visit the Gateway Arch over Christmas break and take a tram ride to the top…well, you better change those plans! The Arch is getting an upgrade to the tram's electrical system and will have to–temporarily--discontinue rides to the top. The tram will shut down on Monday, November 28. You can still visit...

South Kingshighway Houses, Princeton Heights

copyright-st-louis-patina-9466

There is a strange but interesting mix of houses lining Kingshigway, which doesn't seem like was intended to be a major artery when these homes were built.

Interestingly, there are many brick Arts and Crafts Style houses in this city, including the one below–they're usually sheathed in stucco and half timber.

Then there's this ranches house, which defies categorization.

Dead Olive Boulevard

copyright-st-louis-patina-8880

It starts out strong enough, rows of rehabbed buildings with award-winning restaurants around Compton Avenue.

copyright-st-louis-patina-8881

Then it starts to get a little more quiet, and the buildings, while well-maintained, start to look a little less august.

copyright-st-louis-patina-8882

And then the giant swaths of grass, generating zero activity, and surely zero tax dollars. Is this the middle of a major city, or an exurban greensward?

copyright-st-louis-patina-8884

Wouldn't the people in this building want somewhere they could walk to?

A Minimalists 6-Piece Weekend Wardrobe

Packing light is a challenge for a lot of us, but after taking a lesson from those that are pros of all things minimalism, you really can look stylish with just the bare essentials. Here is a weekend wardrobe that features just six items that can take you from Friday night happy hour to brunch on Sunday.

style="text-align: left;">Kick Friday night off right with a dress-something loose and stylish of course. For Saturday, your favorite denim and a tank with lace-up details are fab for running errands, adding a chunky but sleek statement necklace later on for dinner and drinks. Sunday, a statement tee and denim makes for the perfect “I don't want to get up but I want brunch” get-up. A pair of metallic slides are the only shoes you need, fashionably taking you from Friday to Sunday with a six-piece collection.
