Own an Event on the STLFW Calendar: Saint Louis Fashion Week Accepting Submissions For Innovative Event Concept

Great news for fashion community-builders, event planners and creatives in STL: As part of its ongoing mission to support and elevate the local fashion community, Saint Louis Fashion Week is opening up its calendar to the community by seeking public submissions for innovative, creative fashion event concepts to be reviewed for inclusion in the Saint Louis Fashion Week calendar on Monday, Nov. 2.

The chosen concept will allow an individual or an organization to craft an event featuring local designers that will become an official part of the Saint Louis Fashion Week calendar and receive a $15,000 promotional package and access to the official press list. The organization or individual will be responsible for all event production expenses related to the event (venue, food/beverage, rentals, staff, etc).

Submissions will be reviewed in the first week of July. Initial interviews with top candidates will take place in July, with event confirmation by August of 2015. After this initial submission, standout applicants will be asked to present their idea to the STLFW team for final consideration.

Interested parties are invited to fill out the official event form here.

“Saint Louis Fashion Week has grown and evolved a great deal throughout the years, and we’re happy to continue this evolution by creating space on our calendar for the greater fashion community to really own and play a part in creating,” says STLFW cofounder Elizabeth Tucker. “We’re excited to see the creative concepts and ideas that emerge to continue the STLFW mission of supporting local designers and the fashion community as a whole.”

Saint Louis Fashion Week was founded in 2006 with a mission of creating a platform for national designers to reach their Midwest customers and local fashion designers to launch their careers. The carefully curated event series is the largest of its kind in the Midwest, providing designers with valuable resources and connections, which assist in the growth of their careers. The Saint Louis Fashion Week runway has showcased designers such as Rebecca Taylor, Tess Giberson, Rachel Pally, Black Halo and Eva Franco, increasing awareness and demand for these brands in the Midwest region. Each year, Saint Louis Fashion Week reaches more than 10,000 attendees and raises more than $10,000 for local charities.

The Magic House says, JUMP St. Louis!

The Magic House wants everyone to be healthy this summer, so they’re asking us to do something crazy! Jumping Jacks!Jump

Did you know the Jumping Jack is the official state exercise of Missouri? Me neither!

(Psst: This post is sponsored by the Magic House and my buds at US Family Guide. They just want us to be healthy!!)

The Magic House is working with the St. Louis Rams, the Midwest Dairy Council and Jamba Juice to sweep the region with jumping jacks. In celebration of Missouri naming the jumping jack the official state exercise, they jumped at the opportunity to create St. Lou Is Jumping. A free, summer-long, citywide initiative, St. Lou Is Jumping encourages kids to engage in 60 minutes of active play each day, including fun activities like doing jumping jacks.

When you sign up at The Magic House.org you’ll receive weekly health and wellness tips, as well as fitness challenges, to encourage your kids to stay active all summer long! At the end of the summer, they will try to break a Guinness World Record for “Most People Performing Jumping Jacks Simultaneously” at a St. Louis Rams pre-season game and everyone who is signed up has a chance to be a part of this record setting event!

June 5-7: The first of two GlobalHack hackathons scheduled to take place this year arrives this weekend to @4240 in the Cortex Innovation Community. St. Louis-based Aisle411, which provides in-store navigation and mapping, recently launched its latest app called Shops. The app allows customers to pinpoint the location of the product they want down to its exact location on a shelf. Shops contains data to be able to map out 14,000 stores nationwide, including Walgreens, Schnucks, HyVee and Toys R Us among others. If you’re just looking for a specific product, the app can locate it for you, tell you which store closest to you carries it and then direct you to the exact aisle it’s on. In early May TechCrunch held Startup Battlefield, a startup competition where early-stage startups compete for the Disrupt Cup and a $50,000 prize, at its New York Disrupt conference. Selequity, a crowdfunding platform for investing in commercial real estate, was the only startup from St. Louis to attend. The founders of Selequity have spent the last two decades in commercial real estate and have a strong legal background with the addition of Maria Desloge and AJ Chivetta, who were previously with Armstrong Teasdale.

A Circus In The Street

Circus Flora In Citygarden 2015-06-02 1

Come one, come all . . .

We have a delightful one-ring circus company here, Circus Flora. They have their main show at this time of year under a big top tent on the parking lot of the symphony hall. I must admit that I've never been but now that I have a granddaughter it won't be long.

So they had this little promo show in Citygarden at lunchtime yesterday. Not very long but it was fun. Just a couple of samples here. More to come.

Walk On By

Walk On By

So, um, what does this photo say about race relations in St. Louis?

You see this man here and there around downtown. Obviously a body builder and full of energy. He has a boom box that plays loud hip hop and funk, dancing, let's say, vigorously. He has a tip jar on the ground nearby but doesn't collect much. As you can see, he's pretty out there.

These three ladies walking down Broadway are desperately trying to avoid eye contact. Would they react the same way to a gentle busker playing the guitar? A white busker?

As you know, Ferguson is one of our suburbs.
