To prove how simple Hotels.com Rewards really is, Hotels.com used the fine print for something actually worth reading — instructions for a contest entry for a big prize.

“We thought it would be fun to make a TV spot that actually encourages consumers to use their DVRs,” Dan Donovan, vice president, executive creative director at CP+B explained to Adweek. “Specifically to use them to rewind and pause the ad so that they can discover a clue that will reward one lucky viewer for their engagement with a really amazing prize. Hotels.com is always looking for ways to breakthrough in all mediums and this ad is doing that for them in a unique way.”

Waltmire Bridge, Tremont, Tazewell County, Illinois

2015-08-14 13.20.02

Built in 1910, the old Waltmire Bridge has been closed for what seems to be decades. Why was it here? The road is desolate, and few people live around here. We assumed that newer highways replaced the traffic needs of this bridge. There just is not enough money to fix everything out in the country. But the bridge sits in resplendent isolation, viewed by only the lucky few who follow the dead end road.

So I’m in this book…Learn with Play

I love to craft with the boys, so when I got a chance to help write a book on making learning FUN through play and crafting…well, it was a no brainer!Learn with Play

A whole bunch of mom bloggers from all over the world offered up their very best ideas–over 150 fun activities for little kids to make Learn with Play! These are awesome ideas for moms of babies on up to kindergartners. We’re talking color sorting, leaf art, tons of play dough, ice painting, math games, writing games, sensory bins, holiday crafts and geez, just a whole buncha really cool stuff!

Oh…and this:

Learn with Play: Popsicle flag

And that…Learn with Play: Sidewalk Chalk

Now, I know what you’re thinking! Bloggers wrote a book? Why buy a book when I can just look it up for free? Well, some of these crafts are exclusive to the book. Others are tweaked a bit for the book–with easy to follow directions and plenty of pictures. And besides, it’s just really awesome to flip through a real book, stick post it notes all over it, take it out to the backyard, read it in the school pick up lane…  And hey! It won’t drain your phone batteries or your data!

There’s two ways to pick up the book First, you can download an ebook from EBookTag. This is an affiliated link (as in, I get a portion of the profit) direct from the publisher of Learn with Play, and costs $14.95. Click here to get that eBook copy of Learn with Play.

You can also get a copy from Amazon! This is NOT an affiliated link, because Amazon is having a disagreement with the lovely state of Missouri over sales taxes…you know. BUT I don’t want to stop you from getting a copy of this book, because it’s pretty dang cool. Buy Learn with Play from Amazon HERE!

Pure Fix Cycles @PFCycles – Video & Stills by Tuan Lee

Local

Tuan Lee has been working out in Los Angeles lately while still occasionally coming back to St. Louis for work. Here's a still & video series he recently worked on for Pure Fix Cycles based in L.A.

Tuan says:
"[There are two series], one for Pure Fix, which are the original fixed gear bikes. These speak to urban dwellers who use their bikes to commute. There are also photos for Pure City, which is their second line of bikes. These have gears and are directed towards a more recreational demo. Both lines pride themselves on having great color ways and accessories to choose from."

Tuan also worked on a video portion of the campaign that highlights the focus on style and fashion that the brand was hoping to communicate. What we find most interesting about this campaign is that Pure Fix decided to sell their bikes as almost a fashion accessory – like a new pair of shoes or sunglasses. Bicycle purists may raise issue with this, but if your intent is to sell simple-functioning bikes in trendy color ways, then this approach is spot on.

Milwaukee Bucks arena is product of bizarre and bipartisan bedfellows

It takes an incestuous bipartisan pile of snakes to foist this expense upon Wisconsin when only 9%* of the Wisconsin public wants to help fund it AND when the administration is slashing public education funding. Steve Horn and Michael Arria have a long and interesting piece out on Truthdig that exposes backroom bipartisanship and public more »
